Have you ever felt fragmented? Meaning: do you ever feel split in more than two by the demands of your life and by the end of a grueling day, there are pieces that didn’t quite come together? Well, think for a moment about those pieces that did come together to make some brief or enduring successes. While there are still the unfinished projects and the poor moments of communication that have left so many gaps in your feelings of completion and resolution…….the beauty is the opposition that drives your momentum to wake up and start again. I find this to be the beauty of Italian artist Gehard Demetz’s wood sculptures. I identify not so much with the physical child, but rather the construction of it and the intrigue created by his placing of unfinished and finished pieces together to form something purposeful. May we each appreciate a little more our failures or flaws so that we may truly recognize what it is that makes us full of purpose; us.
