Aakash Nihalani’s Tape Shapes

I have always been drawn to street art because of the brilliant colors and monumental shapes and patterns. I am even more captivated by the evolution of temporary street art because it becomes more of an installation (because it is far more unexpected and weather-wise or ambitious street-street-cleaner-wise temporary) rather than a destructive defacing project often associated with crime. I think Aakash Nihalani is the quintessential street artist because he accommodates both of my fascinations with eye-cathing colors/shapes and art installation on the street with his inventive use of tape. He creates perspective and depth in obviously flat areas. He tricks us into seeing his geometric tape shapes in 3D and you don’t even need glasses. I tip my head to Nihalani for his creativity.
